The Alexander Plaza Hotel is located a short walk from the Alexanderplatz train station in central Berlin. It’s easy to find and looks very nice from the outside, as you can see from the photos I took.
The appearance of the hotel and the lobby were a surprise to me as I expected something fairly downmarket for the price I’d paid but it’s actually very nice.
A smartly decorated and spotless hotel
We stayed in room 304 in a double room, though it could be made up into a twin as the beds were pushed together. The room was big for a city centre hotel, warm, smartly decorated and spotlessly clean. There was a chaise lounge style sofa at one end of the room and huge windows that looked out onto the street outside the hotel. You could also look straight ahead into the office building across the street if that’s your cup of tea.
The mattress on my bed was firm but comfortable and I slept well on it. The only slight issue was the pillow was a bit thin and I struggled to get it into a comfortable position. This is entirely my own fault though, as the hotel offers a service where you can request an alternative pillow of your choice but I was too lazy to take up the offer.
The best shower in Berlin?
The real highlight of the room was the shower, which is the best I’ve experienced in years. After a busy day of sightseeing, it was wonderful to feel the regenerating power of the shower. The temperature was easy to get just right and the power helped to soothe my aching muscles. I really can’t recommend the shower enough. The complimentary shower gel and shampoo was also good, smelling of something pleasant and fruity.
The staff we encountered in the hotel were very friendly, spoke perfect English and did their job with a minimum of fuss. It was nice and easy to get everything sorted and there was no messing around, which is important when you’re travelling on a tight timescale.
Overall rating – 87 out of 100
Overall I would heartily recommend Hotel Alexander Plaza. The location is excellent for a city break in Berlin, the rooms are very nicely put together and our stay was excellent value for money. I’d suggest anyone staying in Berlin consider this hotel for their trip.
